The Institute of Environmental Protection

The Institute of Environmental Protection – National Research Institute was established in 1973 and in the years 1974-1986 was functioning within the Institute for Environmental Development. The Institute was reestablished by order of the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources on 1st April 1986. The Institute was entrusted with comprehensive environmental studies, including the processes and effects of environmental degradation and the development of state policies. In September 2010 the Institute was granted the status of National Research Institute. The Institute of Environmental Protection – National Research Institute is under supervision of the Minister for the Environment.
The scope of activities of the Institute of Environmental Protection – National Research Institute
The scope of activities of the Institute includes in particular the development of scientific and technical basis for environmental protection, nature protection, programs counteracting climate change as well as research and development in the following areas:
- comprehensive environmental studies including: processes and effects of environmental degradation;
- environmental protection plans and programs;
- air pollution protection;
- counteraction against climate change;
- noise pollution protection;
- landscape conservation;
- protection of natural wildlife;
- protection and restoration of biologically active land surface;
- protection and renewal of water resources;
- waste management;
- management of chemicals in the environment;
- ecotoxicology.
